Mass Awareness and Artistic Culture in the Text of Soviet
Culture (based on Theatre and Film Material)
Les’ Kurbas SCTA, Kyiv, 2006
ISBN 966-96527-2-3
The book is dedicated to the topical problems in relations
between mass awareness and artistic culture. The author constructs
an original model of such relations based on the hitherto little
analyzed by mainstream academia material of Soviet culture.
The author proposes an objective composite view of Soviet culture
as a self-sufficient and complex text demanding new discovery,
basing herself on the semiotic school of phenomenology, classical
and structural psychoanalysis, and contemporary theories in
non-linear thinking. The proposed methodology of the study raises
mass awareness to a level of relating to individual awareness,
elite awareness, group awareness, and beyond awareness. New
and unexpected manifestations of art forms such as folk craft,
terror, commissioned art, etc. are analyzed. The book is targeted
at specialists in the areas of culture studies, philosophy,
film and theatre, and also general readers interested in the
problems of culture.
