The Drama Laboratory was established in 2006. The Laboratory’s
goal is to develop an innovative program in the realm of the contemporary
play and to realize playwrighting projects.
The creation of a separate division was preceded by projects within
the Centre revolving around contemporary drama, including the
following:
- the Our Drama project, in conjunction with
the I. Franko National Academic Theatre (2001-2002)
- the World Drama Dialogue of Theatre Cultures
project (2002)
The Laboratory’s activities includes:
- the creation of a database of contemporary Ukrainian playwrights
(comprised of annotations, texts, biographies, photographs
- the development of an internet version of the above; dissemination
in Ukraine and abroad (by means of lectures and presentations)
- work with theatre practitioners on creative commissioned work
and productions
- the publication of plays, collections of annotations, (on a
contest basis, with the inclusion of specialists)
- scholarly-critical commentary: articles, lectures, participation
in conferences, seminars
- work with beginning writers; teaching methodologies; master
classes
- contemporary world dramaturgy: a dialogue of theatrical cultures;
reciprocal projects
- the development of proposals for state policy in the sphere
of dramaturgy
- the stage-testing of new experimental plays as a form of theatrical
experiment
